The Acorns School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the health, safety and well-being of every member of our school community and that includes staff, students and governors.  We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment.  We listen to our students and take what they tell us seriously.  Students are made aware that they can talk to any adult in school if they have any concerns.

At The Acorns School, students are taught about personal safeguarding; peer on peer abuse; how to stay safe online; healthy and respectful relationships; what respectful behaviour looks like; consent; gender roles; stereotyping; equality; body confidence and self-esteem; prejudiced behaviour; that sexual violence and sexual harassment is always wrong; and addressing cultures of sexual harassment.

When concerns are raised by staff or students, the school’s policy for safeguarding & child protection details clear and explicit roles and responsibilities to ensure accountability when safeguarding children.  This includes how staff record and report information.  Staff will report any concerns to the DSL and record safeguarding information via CPOMS.  The DSL may use this information to report to Early Help and Children’s Social Care.

The DSL will work in collaboration with school staff and individual families when considering multi-agency assessments.  All our staff are trained in safeguarding and receive regular safeguarding updates and understand the procedure to record and report any student disclosures.

If you do have any safeguarding concerns, please contact Miss Melling or Miss Kimmins on 01695575486.
