Pupils completing their BTEC Level 2 qualification have been putting their practical skills to the test as they work through their assessment dishes in food preparation and cooking.

As part of their assessment, pupils were tasked with planning and producing a two-course meal, demonstrating creativity, organisation and a range of practical culinary techniques.

The activity required pupils to consider planning, preparation, timing and presentation, alongside food safety and hygiene standards.

A variety of imaginative and well-executed dishes were produced, including:

  • Chicken stir-fry with sushi rolls
  • English breakfast with American pancakes
  • Ramen with Asian cucumber salad
  • Chicken stir-fry with salt and pepper fries

The range of meals reflected pupils’ growing confidence in the kitchen and their ability to combine different flavours, cuisines and cooking methods. Staff praised the well-executed dishes, as well as the independence pupils demonstrated throughout the practical sessions.

These assessments form an important part of the qualification, allowing pupils to apply their learning in a real, practical context while developing valuable life skills in a kitchen setting.

Well done to all pupils involved for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the task!
