Recently, our Year 11 students took part in a valuable revision skills workshop delivered by Abigail Jones, Outreach Manager for the Academic Development Programme in the widening participation team at the University of Lancashire.

During the session, pupils explored different approaches to revision and learned how understanding their own learning style can help them prepare more effectively for exams.

As part of the workshop, pupils completed a quiz to identify what type of learner they are. The results were then used to introduce a range of revision techniques tailored to different learning styles, helping pupils discover strategies that could work best for them.

The interactive session encouraged our young people to reflect on their own study habits while developing practical skills they can use as they prepare for their upcoming exams.

A Year 11 pupil said: “I found the memory skills workshop really helpful. The activities from the University of Lancashire showed me new ways to remember information, and I realised that some techniques work much better for me than the ones I was using before. I feel more confident about revising now, and I think these strategies will really help me in my exams.”

Both pupils and staff found the workshop both engaging and informative, providing valuable guidance at an important time in the academic year.

Miss Helen Cutts, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Workshops like this are incredibly valuable for our pupils as they prepare for their exams. The session helped them understand their own learning styles and gave them practical revision strategies they can use both now and in the future.”

Following the success of the session, we are looking forward to welcoming Abigail back later in the academic year to deliver a similar workshop for our Year 10 students, helping them develop strong revision skills ahead of their own exam preparation.
